It's Easter Around the World

Image
By Alicia Cruz It's Sunday morning and millions of us are up -- or getting up -- to attend Sunday Mass in observance of Easter. Churches will perform re-enactments of Jesus' walk to his crucifixion. At the Vatican Saturday, The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI led the annual Easter vigil at St. Peter's Basilica , a tradition within the Catholic faith. Later today, hundreds of thousands will stand within St. Peters Square to listen to the Pontiff as he delivers words of hope and change in the spirit of this Holy season. For those of you unable to make it to Church, I hope you are able to watch services or Mass on television. Photos

Immigrants getting conflicting census advice

Image
By The Associated Press UNDATED - Latino groups around the country - including some in Georgia - have mixed messages for undocumented workers, when it comes to this year's census. The National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders and has urged them to boycott the census until comprehensive immigration reform is passed as has the Confraternity of Pastors and Ministers of Atlanta. But the Reverend Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, says that would reinforce the perception that immigrants don't want to become Americans. Clergy advocating a boycott don't trust government assurances that census information won't be used to prosecute undocumented immigrants, but Rodriguez and other church leaders insist there's nothing to fear. He says a full count will ensure that Latino communities get their share of government services. Any Census boycott by Hispa...

A Moment of Truth on Immigration Reform 18 March 2010 The tipping point is here. The time has come. In all political and social movements there comes a moment when the confluence of events is so powerful they just can’t be ignored or dismissed. The long-running effort for comprehensive immigration reform is one such movement and its moment of truth is at hand. Our immigration system is badly broken and a majority of Americans support reform. The White House supports it. Most Democrats and some Republicans are prepared to vote for it. Only a vocal minority oppose it. Yet the question remains whether President Obama will make a forceful and public push for reform legislation, and whether Congress has the guts to pass it.
