By Alicia Cruz The New Jersey Newsroom On July 20, 2011, an Essex County Grand Jury indicted a New Jersey man on 24 counts of theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception in connection with an online car sale scheme that bilked potential car buyers of more than $500,000. According to a press release, Thomas Miller, of Cedar Grove used the Internet to pose as an automobile wholesaler advertising the sale of luxury vehicles such as Land Rovers, Nissan Muranos, Mercedes Benz, BMWs and Lexus cars. Buyers from California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Canada were told the asking price for the vehicles were $70,000 to $90,000. In some cases, the unwitting buyers would wire a down payment, others would wire the entire sale price, but Miller never produced any of the cars, said Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Shoup's dogs Kapone, an 11-year-old pit bull, and Jersey were taken from her home in Cordova on June 24 after local anmial control officers received word the pair were running loose. The animal control officer who arrived to remove the dogs, Demetria Hogan, loaded them into her truck and supposedly took both to the pound. Video surveillance showed Jersey arrived, but Kapone did not. When Shoup arrived to the pound to cliam her dogs, shelter employees told her Jersey was there but they did not know where Kapone was. NASA's Dawn spacecraft is orbiting around a massive asteroid named Vesta and is preparing to begin a study that may pre-date to the earliest era of the solar system. NASA officials say Dawn will get as close as 110 miles from Vesta. The spacecraft was launched in 2007 specifically for the purpose of reaching the asteroid.  The entry into orbit occurred while the spacecraft's antenna was pointed away from Earth, so mission controllers had to wait for Dawn to re-establish contact to confirm its success.The capture was estimated to have occurred at 10 p.m. PDT Friday, when Dawn was 9,900 miles from Vesta and 117 million miles from Earth in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, according to a statement from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
