Image
CNN.COM --When Sonya Hill opens the door of her rebuilt shotgun house in the Lower 9th Ward she faces a reminder of the devastation Katrina brought. Directly across from her house is the spot where the levee broke five years ago. It has since been rebuilt and sits higher than before the storm. It is an impressive wall of gray concrete meant to offer protection from future storms, but for Sonya Hill it is a reminder of everything that can go wrong. “Looking at that wall, I’m thinking what if it breaks again? What if it breaks right in front of my door and I’m inside with my kids? I don’t feel safe back here if a hurricane comes through,” she says. When Katrina hit.... Autumn/Winter Fashion Trends 2010

Image
Autumn will be here before you know it, so I started looking into the 2010 Autumn/Winter fashion trends. Some of it I like, some of it I definitely plan to do without. This year's trend is looks classic with a blend of yester year looks. I like the new Christian Louboutin Button Flannel Bootie , but I could really do without the peek-a-boo toe. Sophistication is back the buttoned-up shirt collar trend. And they say the military look will stick around for Autumn. Check it out here They say Capes and velvet clothing (hmm...I dont know) are going to be the "must-haves" of the season. I know some people may say, “Bimbola, why aren’t you doing any research into how Black women feel” and my answer would be: Black men are not the ones finding it difficult to get married. They are not the ones facing a singlehood problem nor are they the ones facing a never-been-married-and-can’t-get-married problem. It’s Black women facing these problems, not Black men. So we need to find out what we Black women should do to make marriage a more.... MORE

The letter is from a 38 year old woman who refers to herself as Frustrated Black Female and it goes as follows: Dear Ellie, I am writing to you because I am at my wits end but I don’t even know if there is anything you can do to help me. I am a 38 year old, university educated, extremely overweight Black woman on the wrong side of the paper bag shade – much, much darker than the paper bag.
