New Jersey Correctional Officer Shoots, Kills Jailed Bank Robber

The Professional Standards Bureau of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a shooting involving a Hudson County corrections officer and an escaped prisoner, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today.

Robert Martin, a man with 14 felony convictions, was being transported to East Orange General Hospital for treatment when he began struggling with the corrections officer as he exited the vehicle at the hospital. Martin, jailed on a variety of State and Federal charges, was shot once and pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m. at East Orange General Hospital.
